Wednesday 26 April – Monday 1 May 2023

For the fourth year, Tribal Art Fair is holding an online edition, which is free to view and can be found at www.tribalartfair.nl/onlinefair. Following the successful previous online Tribal Art Fairs (TAF) this Spring’s edition is scheduled to take place from Wednesday 26 April at 3p.m. until Monday 1 May 2023 at 10 p.m. (Dutch CEST time).

An established and important international event for tribal art from Africa, Oceania, Asia and the Americas, the physical TAF (www.tribalartfair.nl) is held in Amsterdam at the end of October each year and has amassed an impressive following of collectors, dealers, museum curators, interior designers and discerning members of the public. The online edition opens up the fair and its exhibitors to a worldwide audience.

This Spring 2023, some 20 galleries are showing up to 50 of their latest acquisitions. As items sell, each dealer will refresh their stock for sale online by adding up to another 10 pieces on Saturday 29 April. The six Dutch galleries participating are joined by experts from the UK, Spain, Germany, France, Thailand, Austria and Belgium.
As well as selling authentic masks, shields, statues, textiles, jewellery and utensils, TAF is renowned for hosting an inspiring lecture programme, which can of course also be followed online.

This year’s speakers include the collector/ dealer Thomas Murray from America, a textile specialist whose subject is Iban textiles from Sarawak. Bruce Goodall is talking about his book published last year “Headrests from Southern Africa – The Architecture of Sleep”. Ian McNiven, Professor at Monash University Australia, is presenting “Beyond bridge and barrier: Torres Strait and curious artefact distributions between Queensland and New Guinea”. The full lecture programme and timings can be found on the website from the beginning of April and are free to view.
